Chapter Annual Meeting Returns

A key component of the Hoosier Chapter's success has been missing the last few years, and we're bringing it back in a big way! The Chapter's Annual Meeting will return the weekend of Nov. 21-22 at Bradford Woods in Martinsville.

"We lost our best opportunity to work together as Sierrans when we stopped holding annual meetings," said Lisa Haile, Chapter Chair. "We need to reestablish contact with our members and our Groups, find out what issues they care about, the wild places they're working to protect, and to recognize the efforts they've made as Sierrans." The annual meeting is a time for friends to come from around the state to discuss issues, plan strategy, and share trip stories and photographs. We'll hold workshops on the issues our members want to know more about: planning a grassroots campaign around an issue; getting members more active; starting a Sierra Club group where none exists; getting students involved; improving our outings program.

They did such a great job last year that we've asked Bob Bingaman, the Club's National Field Director, and Carl Zichella, the Midwest Office Field Director, to facilitate the conservation planning workshops.

We also will have a return of the Chapter Awards Program. Awards to be presented this year include the Conservation Award, the Chapter Service Award, Legislative Award, and, if nominations are received, the Lifetime Achievement Award.

To nominate someone, send a brief statement of nomination and your name, address, phone/e-mail address to the Chapter Awards Committee, c/o Chris Pedersen, 8524 Camby Road, Camby, IN 46113, or call Chris at (317) 856-9135.

Bradford Woods is Indiana University's 2,300-acre outdoor retreat and conference center located in the gently folded knolls of Morgan County.

Please send in your registration form by the deadline, Nov. 1, so that lodging and food arrangements can be made. An agenda, instructions, and map of Bradford Woods will be mailed out at least a week before the meeting. To volunteer to help with the meeting, please contact Lisa Haile at (812) 537-1225 or lmhaile@juno.com.
