Letter From The Chair
As usual, this year has already been an interesting one for the Hoosier Chapter. A new national Sierra Club forest policy was passed on the ballot in April that advocates ending all commercial logging on publicly-owned lands in the United States. This will not alter the Chapters current policy to oppose logging in the Hoosier National Forest.
Our groups are continuing work on the riverboat gambling development in Lawrenceburg, the Pumpkinvine Trail in northern Indiana, restoration of native plant species in an Indianapolis park, as well as various outings and other activities.
The Chapter has recently opened a new office in Indianapolis. The new address and phone number are: Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter, 212 W. 10th Street, Suite A-335, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Phone 317/972-1908. The Chapters Wetlands Project has moved to join the Chapter office in the new location; its phone number will remain the same (317/231-1903). As you will also see in another article of this issue, a new Wetlands Project Director, Susan Thomas, has been hired to continue the work started by Patty Werner.
The new book, Nature Walks in Northern Indiana, is currently being printed and should be available soon. Check the next issue of the Hoosier Sierran for ordering information.
Thanks to all the volunteers who have been working on the many projects of our Groups and Chapter. Anyone interested in participating in these activities, please give us a call!
