October Permaculture Course Announced

The Raccoon Creek Community, an intentional community started by Sierra Club members and located about 20 minutes west of Bloomington in Owen County, has announced its first permaculture course, Permaculture Fundamentals, to be held Oct. 21 through Oct. 29.

There are very few opportunities to attend permaculture courses in the Midwest. This course, and its companion course scheduled for early May 2006, earn participants a Permaculture Design Certificate. Cost is $650 (less $50 for payment by Sept. 21; less $50 for campers) and includes lodging at Solsberry Hill Retreat, dormitory style, male/female/co-ed, 15 minutes west of Bloomington, Ind. Also included are three organic food meals per day.

For more information and a registration form, visit the Raccoon Creek Community web pages and select "Permaculture Courses Announced."

From that same Web site you can learn more about Raccoon Creek and read a Web log that chronicles its progress as the members create a community dedicated to living more lightly on the Earth. Currently they are dismantling a 140-year-old barn that they will re-erect on the community site for use as apartments, dorm rooms, and shop and storage areas. Raccoon Creek Community welcomes inquiries from those seeking community and is open to everyone.
