Inaugural Fall Birdseed Sale

By Shondra Zaborowski,
Chapter Development Committee and Membership Committee Chair

One of the best ways to support your Hoosier Chapter's conservation work, programs, and outings is to purchase products through the Sierra Club. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of products go to support your chapter's programs.

This year the fundraising committee will be selling birdseed in addition to calendars, lip balm, t-shirts, and planners. We hope you decide to support our work by purchasing premium quality wild bird food using the form printed here. Additional forms are available online at

All birdseed will be supplied to us by a Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU) store. WBU does not add seeds like wheat, which are not eaten by birdfeeder birds, to its mixes. This cuts back on uneaten waste. Less uneaten waste means fewer rotting seeds under your feeder and more cost-efficient seed.

The Hoosier Chapter will be selling three different types of seeds.

  • Nyjer thistle is for tube feeders and primarily attracts goldfinches.
  • Premium oil sunflower has a high calorie/ounce ratio due to its high fat and protein content and its relatively thin shell.
  • The deluxe blend is designed to feed birds at the feeder while also feeding birds on the ground. This blend contains oil sunflower, stripe sunflower safflower, and millet.

Winter can be a difficult time for birds. The natural food supply has been consumed or is hidden by snow. The food needed to provide the energy to keep birds warm might be scarce. Stock up on your fall and winter bird seed now. Take the time to help out your local feathered friends and your Hoosier Chapter by purchasing some quality birdseed today! All orders must be submitted by Sept 24.
