Michiana Group Soon to Be Official!

By Lori Hazlett, Hoosier Chapter Coordinator

After several years of hibernation, the Michiana Group is up and at 'em. Ballots to elect an executive committee have been mailed out. Once all ballots are in and counted, the group will be official (applause, applause). The Michiana Group includes Saint Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, and Kosciusko counties.

It is great to have the Michiana Group active again. The volunteers who spearheaded the reorganization are awesome folks. It has been a joy to work with all of them, and the chapter looks forward to working with them for years to come.

Having this group in the northern part of the state will mean a stronger environmental voice in the local area as well as at the state level.

This brings the number of active Sierra Club groups in the Hoosier Chapter to six, including Winding Waters Group centered in Bartholomew County, Five Rivers Group centered in Delaware County, Heartlands Group centered in Marion County, Dunelands centered in Porter County, and Wildcat centered in Tippecanoe County.

General meetings for the group are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Res Nature Center, 13950 Scout Lane in Mishawaka. Elsewhere in this issue, please read about what the Michiana Group has been up to and how you can get involved.

Welcome back Michiana Group! We look forward to the positive changes you will have on the environment!
