John Muir's Experience to Be Retold at Festival

The Sierra Club of Indiana is sponsoring an event at the 16th Annual Hoosier Storytelling Festival at the Indiana Historical Society, 450 W. Ohio St., in Indianapolis. On Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m., come listen as Bill Harley retells of John Muir's harrowing and moving experiences on an Alaskan glacier with a mongrel dog, Stickeen.

The near-death experience reaffirmed for Muir our connection with other beings on the planet, and embodies an ethic that makes us part of nature, not opposed to it. Last year, Bill presented this story to rave reviews at the National Storytelling Festival. He is the recipient of two Grammy nominations and numerous other awards, including Parent's Choice.

The Oct. 9 presentation is free to Sierra Club members; you will be asked to show your membership card. For ticket prices and additional information on other events at the festival, call (317) 576-9848 or visit www.storytellingarts.org.
