New Lobbyist Has Much Experience

Meet Laura Arnold, the new lobbyist for the Hoosier Chapter of the Sierra Club. Although Ms. Arnold may be new in this role for the Sierra Club, she certainly isn’t new to the Indiana Statehouse or environmental issues.

Ms. Arnold is attempting to fill the boots of Bill Hayden, who has lobbied for the club and other environmental groups.

Arnold and Hayden first became acquainted as members of the Izaak Walton League. “She’s been around the block a time or two,” said Hayden about his successor. “Laura’s been lobbying for over 20 years, so she won’t need any training wheels around the capitol.” Hayden will remain chair of the club’s conservation committee.

He pledges to remain very active in legislative matters but won’t miss the drive from his home in Bloomington to the state capitol for those early morning committee hearings.

Arnold, on the other hand, lives just minutes from the state capitol in the Chatham Arch Historic District in downtown Indianapolis. She runs her lobbying activities under The Arnold Group and operates her business from a 1903 American Foursquare, from which she also operates The Hoffman House Bed and Breakfast Homestay.

“We are very lucky to have found someone as experienced and talented as Laura to represent the Hoosier Chapter,” said Glenn Pratt, the club’s legislative chair.

“We are all impressed with her depth of knowledge of the state legislative process and personalities. We also liked her ideas about trying to strengthen the club’s grassroots lobbying efforts.”

Pratt warned that Arnold is asking for names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of club members throughout the state, so don’t be surprised if she contacts you to contact your local state legislators about a critical environmental issue.

Pratt said she is still trying to meet as many club members as possible but urged members to feel free to contact her about various environmental issues at the Indiana General Assembly.

Pratt also encouraged members to spend a day at the statehouse with the new chapter lobbyist.

Arnold is a native of St. Louis where she was a member of the Ozark Chapter of the Sierra Club. She graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette with a B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.

She has worked for a variety of organizations, including the Coalition for the Environment based in St. Louis, the Coalition on American Rivers, the Indiana Solar Energy Industries Association, and the Indiana Park and Recreation Association. Laura can be reached by phone at (317) 635-0112 and by fax at (317) 636-5516, but she prefers receiving e-mail at
